Our definition of craftsmanship — one of MODHER’s core values — comprises deep passion, care, and a meticulous attention to detail.
At MODHER, we envision a world in which it’s exciting to invest in pieces that are built to last, and handcrafted items — as well as the people who make them and the environment in which their materials come from — are highly valued. These are the values we keep at the heart of our sustainable handbag brand.
Designed in San Francisco and handmade in Tuscany, our sustainable handbags fuse traditional Italian craftsmanship with eco-friendly manufacturing that is mindful of people and the environment. At MODHER, we believe that the quality of a product is achieved through a holistic approach to design and manufacturing that incorporates a commitment to craft and ethics. A quality craftsmanship process is the synthesis of this approach, where quality, durability, and ethics are intertwined.
The philosophy of making a high-quality, sustainable product is a way to pay respect to the product, its user, its maker, and to nature. A high-quality product in the hands of those who have learned how to take care of it and look after it will likely last longer (Do/Design, Alan Moore).
Increased durability means that we take less, we produce less, and we waste less — and this is the foundation of a sustainable model.
MODHER handbags are made by Italian artisans whose exceptional skills align with our values. We’ve teamed up with artisans and suppliers who are fully committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for their workers and to applying all the latest technologies in order to protect and preserve our ecosystem.
By working with family-owned artisan workshops, we choose to focus on the quality of our products over their volume and their price. Each handbag is made by skilled and passionate people, and every collection is produced in small batches to ensure quality and uniqueness.
Our small-batch productions and short supply chain allow us to have in-person relationships with our artisans throughout the crafting of our handbags. We are proud of the relationships we have built with our manufacturers and suppliers. We love to hear the stories of the artisans that work with us, to learn from them, and to establish positive and lasting relationships with them — this is how a passion for crafting, tradition, and purpose comes through in our products.
